Vuyo Jack
Vuyo Jack is an entrepreneur who is mostly associated with Broad-based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) who co-founded the BEE rating agency Empowerdex in June 2001. He is a chartered accountant by training and did his articles with PwC. He has grown the Empowerdex brand to service more than 6000 clients ranging from listed entities, multinationals to many black SMMEs, and has offices around the country in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and Pretoria.
On the business front, Vuyo has served on numerous boards such as the Public Investment Corporation where he chaired the Audit and Risk Committee and the Fund Investment Panel on Africa and Private Equity. He also served on the Automobile Association and Pareto boards amongst others. In the government sector he has chaired the National Treasury Audit Committee, chaired the Accounting Standards Board and he was selected to be a member of the Davis Tax Committee which tasked with overhauling of the South African tax system. Vuyo also spent 17 months at the Department of Arts and Culture first as a special advisor to Minister Nathi Mthethwa and subsequently as an Acting Director-General until Nov 2015.
In 2009 Vuyo was selected as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum. In 2011 Vuyo was the founding curator of the Global Shapers in Johannesburg, which is a community of young people within the World Economic Forum.
Currently Vuyo is building the Growth Catalyst Fund, a nation building vehicle which is a private equity fund that has sub-funds focusing on Entrepreneurial Development, Education, Energy and Creative Content Development. He was part of the High Level Panel on Namibian Economy advising the late President of Namibia on how to ignite economic growth in Namibia.
